What I Did For Love

Yesterday I watched the B'way revival of A Chorus Line. Despite it's flaws, I still left the theatre moved by it's portrayal of these b'way chorus wannabees. Towards the end of the play, those auditioning are asked by the director that if today was the last day they could dance, what would they do ? The answers vary from "Die!" to "Start teaching." to "Have babies and become fat!". And then the actors anthem song begins- What I Did For Love. It's words speak so true for me. I was moved to tears. We all make so many sacrifices as performers. From eating raman noodles for a month to pay rent to giving up a social and romantic life to do what we are passionate about. But in the end, there are no regrets. Regardless of how successful I become in my performing career, I will always be so very proud that I moved to New York City and put myself on the line.

Kiss today goodbye
The sweetness and the sorrow
Wish me luck, the same to you
But I can't regret what I did for love
What I did for love

Look my eyes are dry
The gift was ours to borrow
It's as if we always knew
But I won't forget what I did for love
What I did for love

Gone
Love is never gone
As we travel on
Love's what we'll remember

Kiss today goodbye
And point me towards tomorrow
We did what we had to do
Won't forget, can't regret
What I did for love
